My Midsummer Nights Mirage

I awoke from slumber to find myself under a tree. Its green branches cascaded all around me. The morning dew on the leaves glistened as the morning sun shined upon it. I saw patches of sunlight trying to reach its way through the foliage. I was surrounded by darkness within eye shot of the light. I walked in my long white flowing gown towards a clearing. The train of the gown caught on roots poking through the Earth. Steadily walking through the forest to the clearing, the trees began to clear and a brook appeared. There was a little bridge. On the other side of the bridge you stood there, waiting. Waiting for me to cross.

I longed to run to you. I yearned to forgive the past and just embrace you. I tiptoed to the edge of the bridge. But I couldn’t. Everything from yesterday was too fresh and I couldn’t forget. I wanted it all to go away. I wanted the world to be reduced to just us two. And for the time being it was, but eventually I would awake from my mirage and myself alone.

So for the time being I stood there on the safe side of the bank. Unable to cross the bridge. Frozen in my place, waiting for you to cross the bridge and rescue me.
